Macros

This article explains how to create, manage, and use Macros in QuickerNotes.

Note: The Macros tab was previously labeled Templates and is now located under Settings → Macros.

What Are Macros?

Macros are pre-built sections of text that can be inserted into SOAP notes or other documentation.

They can include dynamic data tags, checkboxes, and choice groups that automatically pull information from client records.

Use macros to:

  • Save time on repetitive note content
  • Standardize documentation across providers
  • Automatically insert client-specific information

Permissions

Access to Macros must be enabled as a permission.

  • Users must have the Templates permissions toggled on to view, create, or edit macros.
  • Once a macro is created, it must be assigned to providers for them to access it in their notes.

Note: If a provider can’t see a macro in their note editor, check their assigned permissions and macro access under Settings → Roles and Permissions.

Creating a Macro

  1. Go to Settings → Macros.
  2. Click New Macro.
  3. Enter a Name and add your desired text, tags, and elements.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Assign the macro to the providers who need access.

Editing, Deleting or Copying

  1. Go to Settings → Macros.
  2. Click Edit to modify an existing macro, Delete to remove it, and Copy to duplicate it.
  3. Save your changes when finished.

Labeling

  1. Display Name → The full name of the macro as it appears in your macro database.
  2. Category Name → The group your macro belongs to (for example, all Botox-related macros can be given the category name "Botox").
  3. Button Label → The name displayed on the macro selection button when adding it to a note.

Dynamic Tags

Dynamic Data Replace Tags automatically fill in client information within your notes. When creating or editing a macro, you can insert tags to pull details directly from the client record.

Example:

{$client:first_name} presented to the clinic today for treatment.

When used in a note, this becomes:

“John presented to the clinic today for treatment.”

Checkboxes and Choice Groups

Checkboxes and radio button groups (labeled Checkbox and Choice Group under Dynamic Tags) allow you to capture structured information within your notes.

  • Checkbox: Use for multi-select options (e.g., “Pain,” “Tightness,” “Tenderness”)
  • Choice Group: Use for single-select options (e.g., “Yes/No,” “Improved/Worsened”)

Using Macros in Notes

When creating or editing a SOAP note:

  1. Click the black macro box in the text area panel of the note editor.
  2. Select the macro you’d like to insert.
  3. The macro text (and any dynamic tags) will appear in the note and can be edited as needed.

Macros automatically merge client data and can be used across all note types.

Adding Macros to Form Note Templates

To include a macro within a form note template:

  1. Go to Settings → SOAP Form Templates.
  2. Add a new question and choose the Textarea question type.
  3. Within that field, you can insert a macro or reference macro tags to reuse existing note content.
