This article covers how to create, manage, activate/deactivate, and use Billing (CPT) and Diagnosis (ICD) codes in QuickerNotes.
Permissions
To manage or use insurance codes, users must have the appropriate Insurance Codes permissions enabled in Settings → Roles & Permissions.
If you don’t see or cannot use codes, your role likely needs updating.
Where Codes Can Be Used
Insurance codes can only be applied to text notes. They cannot be added inside SOAP Form Templates or template-based notes at this time.
Insurance Codes Interface Setting
You can choose whether the Insurance Codes panel appears automatically on every progress note.
Go to:
Settings → Profile → Progress Note Settings
Toggle:
Always show Insurance Codes Interface
If this is off, the interface will remain hidden until manually expanded while charting.
Managing Billing (CPT) & Diagnosis (ICD) Codes
Go to:
Settings → Billing Codes (CPT)
Settings → Diagnosis Codes (ICD)
Each page allows you to:
View your code list
Search by code or description
Create new codes
Edit existing codes
Delete or deactivate codes

Inactive Codes
Deactivated codes no longer appear when searching for codes inside notes.
They remain visible on historical notes (in red) and do not affect printed documents.
To restore a code:
Enable Include inactive codes
Click Edit
Reactivate the code
Adding Codes to SOAP Notes
Users must have the appropriate Add/Remove Insurance Code permissions.
Add a Code
Open a text SOAP note.
Use the Billing or Diagnosis search fields.
Select a code and click Add.
Adjust units if needed (CPT only).

Change Units
To update units for a CPT code already added:
Search for the same CPT code again.
Change the quantity.
Click Add — this replaces the old value.
Remove a Code
Click Remove next to the code.
Superbills & Insurance Codes
Superbills are generated from the CPT and ICD codes added to a client’s notes.
When you print a superbill (single or bulk), QuickerNotes pulls:
The CPT codes (procedure codes)
The ICD codes (diagnosis codes)
The date of service
Provider/client details
Only the codes that appear inside the SOAP note will appear on the superbill.
Superbills can be printed from:
The SOAP Note page (Print Codes)
The History tab (Print Codes)
The client’s file → Print (bulk superbills)
For full details, see the Superbill Guide.
